When Joshua Glass asked me to design a fantasy dessert for the new issue of Family Style on "Objects of Affection," I immediately thought of a childhood favorite—a classic rooster lollipop that my grandmother would gift me on special occasions. I wanted to reimagine this nostalgic treat as a larger-than-life lollipop, infused with a more refined flavor profile of rosemary and subtle hints of mezcal. A childhood dessert fantasy that has matured and evolved, becoming an adult fantasy that carries a deep sense of nostalgia.

With the help of my designer friend Anton Ripon, we envisioned an oversized rooster shape, which we later used to create a silicone mold for the caramel. The flavor was elevated by infusing the caramel with rosemary and adding just a touch of mezcal, creating a stronger, more sophisticated taste. The materials, colors, and packaging details—such as the aluminum stick, crafty packaging, and mini renaissance collar—thoughtfully designed to convey the sobriety and elegance of what was once a whimsical childhood treat.
